SummerSlam 2026 Review
I review every match, every moment, and every surprise that happened at SummerSlam this year!
đ Introduction
The wait is now over! SummerSlam is here, and it is bound to be an absolutely stacked show with 12 total matches on the card, with 6 matches on each day. Some of these matches are heated rivalries that are going to be settled, like Gunther/Aldis, Lesnar/Femi, and Rollins/Reigns, and some of them are for titles like Gable/Penta, the womenâs ladder match, and Williams/Corbin.
This SummerSlam has been hyped up a lot, which makes sense considering it is SummerSlam, the second biggest PLE of the year for WWE. Although I hope that it is not overhyped, as this is a lot of matches and could lead to viewer fatigue if they are not careful with how they present these matches on this lengthy card. The good news is that with so many matches, especially on such a large PLE, there will be some matches that will take the cake and solidify memories for everyone, remembering that SummerSlam 2026 had some good matches that blew the roof off the place.
đ„Letâs get it!đ„
đ„SummerSlam Saturday Matchesđ„
đ Match 1: Singles Match For The Womenâs World Championship: Liv Morgan (Champion) vs. Iyo Sky (Challenger)
To kick off SummerSlam Saturday and SummerSlam weekend, we get the match between the rivals Iyo Sky, who is challenging for the title, and Liv Morgan, who is defending her title.
This match was back and forth early on, but that subsided quickly as Iyo took control at one point, where she hit a sunset flip powerbomb through the ropes onto the floor to Liv, creating a big moment early on in the match.
As it continued, to the surprise of no one, Livâs stablemates in the Judgement Day, Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez, came to the ringside to help their friend Liv get the advantage over Iyo. Eventually, Iyo managed to hit a moonsault to both of them outside of the ring, nullifying their help and taking them out of the match.
With them away, Iyo hit a crazy top rope Spanish fly, going for the cover immediately after, but Liv, being the champ for a reason, kicked out at 2. Following it up, Iyo hit Liv with Oblivion, but again, Liv kicked out at 2.
With the momentum swinging now, Liv hit a perfectly placed Codebreaker off the middle rope with Iyo kicking out at 2. In this back-and-forth brawl, Iyo hit a German suplex to Liv on the ring apron, followed by her signature Bullet Train Attack into the ringpost while still on the apron. While in control, Iyo went for her Over The Moonsault, Liv countered with Oblivion, and earned the 3 count, retaining her title.
This match was a technical masterpiece and was a great way to kick off SummerSlam Saturday. The counters to each otherâs moves, the in-ring IQ of both of these women, and the story they were able to tell inside the ring made this match very good.
Result: Liv Morgan Retains Via Pinfall
Match Rating: 7/10
đ Match 2: Six-Man Tag Team Match: LA Knight, Solo Sikoa & Royce Keys vs. Jacob Fatu & The Usos
After weeks of back and forth cheapshots, match interruptions, and other underhanded tactics, these 6 men take to the battle in the ring to determine who is the better trio.
The Usos and Jacob Fatu entered the arena with a Gears of War-inspired entrance, as well as Fatu wearing his werewolf mask, creating a really cool entrance for the Samoan Bloodline. Not much of an entrance was made by any of the guys on the other team, just normal entrances.
Before the match even got underway, all 6 men stormed at each other, fighting for supremacy, but in the end, when all the dust had settled, it was Jey Uso and Solo Sikoa starting the match for their respective teams. After he knocked Jey down, Solo Sikoa looked at the main camera to ârun it back,â and Jeyâs music hit, and he mockingly Yeeted to Jeyâs entrance song.
Royce Keys eventually tagged into this match off of the âhot tagâ and absolutely cleaned up the Bloodline, dominating all of his opponents at that moment, until he had to tag out to LA Knight, who was speared by Jey, but was able to kick out at 2, saving the matchup for his team.
The highlight of this match was when Fatu went for a running hip attack to Keys on the outside through the barricade, but Keys countered with a powerslam over the barricade into the timekeeper's area.
In the midst of all of this chaos, âBigâ Jim Uso hit a Uso Splash to LA Knight, who once again kicked out, saving the match for his team. With a bit more of a distraction and chaos happening, Jey Uso became the legal man, went for the 1-D, but Solo Spiked Jimmy, leaving Jey alone, and when he turned around, Knight hit him with a BFT and pinned Jey for the win.
This 6-man tag team match was great, and I liked how Solo is starting to come out of his shell as a babyface, really making him likeable. I would say it was like his NXT days with how the fans have rallied behind him, but that was a quieter and more mysterious Solo, whereas this Solo is outspoken.
Result: LA Knight Pins Jey Uso For The Win
Match Rating: 6.8/10
â°ïž Match 3: Singles Match: Gunther vs. Nick Aldis
I can tell you right now that one of the loudest âpopsâ of the night came when Nick Aldisâ entrance music hit, as the crowd went absolutely nuts for him. And for Gunther, they booed. Shocker there.
As the feeling-out process began, you could tell that Nick had so many emotions going through his head, which allowed Gunther to take advantage, and it allowed him time to gloat on top of the announce table, drinking in the boos from the crowd.
Continuing the taunting, Gunther had control on the outside of the ring, and while Nick was down, he went over to Nickâs wife, Mickie James, and talked trash to her as well. Continuing on like a cyborg, Gunther started dominating with some nasty chops, keeping the pace of the match slow and controlled, just like Gunther prefers.
All hope for Aldis was not lost, though, as after Gunther locked in a Sleeper Hold, Aldis was able to counter and get out of it, preserving his chances in this difficult matchup.
Now with some momentum, Aldis hit a superplex, followed by a British Bulldog-like running powerslam, inflicting massive damage to Gunther, who still kicked out at only 2. Following it up quickly, Aldis hit 2 top rope elbows and locked in his version of the Cloverleaf submission, but Gunther got to the bottom rope to break it up.
After all of that offense, Aldis was somewhat fatigued, allowing Gunther to regroup and hit a Powerbomb, but Nick still had gas left in the tank, kicking out at a 2 count. Gunther could smell blood at this point, and once again locked in a Sleeper Hold, Aldis countered temporarily, Gunther cinched it in better, and Aldis had to tap out.
After the match concluded and Gunther returned to the back, Aldis received a standing ovation from the crowd with his wife, Mickie James, and his son in the ring with him, possibly signifying that that may be his only match, even though he wrestled very well.
Aside from Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi, which I will get to later in this post, this was the most entertaining match of the night! Seeing Aldis compete was so much fun to watch, and the crowd made the atmosphere of this match so much better!
Result: Gunther Wins Via Submission
Match Rating: 8.4/10
đ€Œââïž Match 4: Six-Woman Tag Team Match: The Bella Twins (Nikki/Brie) & Paige Vs. Fatal Influence (Jacy Jayne/Lainey Reid/Fallon Henley)
This match is the battle of the top Divas from the Divas division a decade ago, Paige, Brie Bella, and Nikki Bella, vs one of the newest additions to the SmackDown womenâs division, Fallon Henley, Lainey Reid, and Jacy Jayne, Fatal Influence.
Coming hot out of the gate, Brie Bella got an early start on Fallon Henley with her Yes Kicks, putting her team in position to be on top. However, this all came to an end when the ref was distracted in the ring and Reed, with outside interference, stomped Brieâs head into the steel steps at ringside, as well as Jayne hitting a cannonball on Brie into the steps, putting Brie in a very desperate situation, needing to tag out as soon as possible.
Well, that tag came in the form of Brieâs twin sister, Nikki Bella, who, off the tag, took firm control of the opposition and dominated, evening the playing field. Although she had a hot start off the tag, this quickly fizzled out, allowing Henley to take control, and while in control, mocked Nikki, imitating the hip swing that she always does in her entrance.
Moving along, Jayne and Paige were both in the ring doing battle when Jacy hit her rolling elbow on Paige, picking up the win for her team, proving Fatal Influence to be a very tough faction on the SmackDown brand.
After the match was over, the Bellas let it be known that they are sick of Paige getting pinned and losing matches with them involved as they beat down Paige, turning heel in the process.
This was not a bad match by any means, as I think it could have gone a bit longer and involved Paige a bit more. One other takeaway is that it looks like Brie Bella broke her collarbone or dislocated/injured her shoulder, so hopefully she is ok, and it looks worse than it actually is.
Result: Jayne Pins Paige For The Win
Match Rating: 6.5/10
âĄïž Match 5: Singles Match For The Undisputed WWE Championship: CM Punk (Champion) vs. Cody Rhodes (Challenger)
We are finally getting into the big matches of SummerSlam night 1, as we have Cody Rhodes taking on CM Punk to try and win his 4th world title, but of course, it will not be easy, as Punk is determined to hold onto that title for a very long time.
Entrance-wise, Cody entered with a Street Fighter-themed entrance, and Punk entered with the old Minnesota hockey teamâs colors on his entrance jacket.
From the beginning of the match onward, Punk had his target set on Codyâs arm, seeing a weakness and exploiting it. Continuing on his arm, Cody sensed that he needed to get out of it fast and send Punk out of the ring, reversing the armlock he was put in. And now in control, Cody decided to take the stakes up a notch, connecting with a suicide dive to Punk outside the ring, where the brawling continued from there, with Punk unrelenting on that arm of Codyâs.
After some more fighting back inside the ring, Punk appeared to tweak his knee, now giving Cody a chance to target a limb of Punkâs to try and gain an advantage. But even with that hurt knee, Punk managed to hit a top rope elbow to Cody, who kicked out at 2. This was quickly followed by a Cody Cutter on Punk, and Punk kicked at 2.
Feeling the pressure to end it now, Cody hit a Super Cody Cutter, but Punk still had some left in the tank and kicked out at 2. Punk now went for a GTS, Cody countered, locked in figure 4, but Punk got to the ropes and broke the hold.
Trying his hand at submissions now, Punk put Cody in the Anaconda Vice. Cody broke the hold via the ropes, Punk locked it in again, Cody countered with a Cross Rhodes, but Punk kicked out at 2. Being SummerSlam, Punk pulled out all the stops and just barely landed a Moonsault to Cody, followed by a GTS, but because of the bad knee, CM was slow to cover Cody, and Cody kicked out at 2. Another GTS was hit, but Cody got his hand on the rope to break it up.
Getting into the deep waters of the match now, Punk went for an elbow through the US announce table, but Cody moved out of the way. Back in the ring, Rhodes accidentally knocked the ref down, Punk hit another GTS, Cody hit a Cross Rhodes, and just as Rhodes got up, a returning Randy Orton RKOâd Cody, allowing an easy GTS for Punk, picking up the three count and the win.
Longer doesnât always mean better, as the GTSâs and big moves became very repetitive for my liking. 5-10 minutes shorter, cutting out a lot of the repetitive moves would have made this match at least 2 points better on my rating scale.
Result: CM Punk Wins Via Pinfall
Match Rating: 6.8/10
đ Match 6: Singles Hell in a Cell Match: Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar
The most anticipate dmatch of the PLE is finally here, as Brock/Oba 3 to determine who wins the feud, and more importantly, determines who is the most dominant on Raw.
Oba started out of the gates very quickly, but Brock took him to Suplex City with 3 German suplexes, setting the tone for a very hard-hitting affair.
Oba then sent Brock outside the ring, near the confines of the cell, sending Brock flying. Once outside, Oba sent Brock through the steel steps, setup a table against the cage, and sent Brock through that as well.
This all just seemed to anger Brock, as once the two competitors were back in the ring, he hit Oba hard 3 times in the face with steel steps. He also sent Oba back to Suplex City, followed by multiple chair shots and a suplex onto a pile of steel chairs.
Oba rose up quickly after those events and hit a massive Chokeslam to Brock, followed immediately by a Fall From Grace Powerbomb, but Brock kicked out at 2. Now Brock got up and recovered quickly, hit 3 F-5âs, Oba kicked out at 2, but not satisfied, Brock used the chair again on Femi.
Going deep into his playbook, Brock exposed the ring down to just the lumber, taking the canvas and the padding off, setting up for something massive. And that looked to be an F-5, but Brock signaled for a Tombstone Piledriver and hit it on the exposed part of the ring to Femi. But Oba kicked out at 2, shocking every single person!
Oba once again shot up and hit a Fall From Grace to Brock, earning the 3 count and the win. After the match, Brock hugged Femi, raised his hand, took a mic, and announced himself as the past and Oba as the future of WWE.
What a match and a way to end the feud. So much violence, and both guys showed why they are both so tough, and if that is Brockâs last match, thank you for what you have done for the company and the memories you gave the fans, Brock Lesnar!
Result: Oba Femi Wins Via Pinfall
Match Rating: 10/10, such a good match!
đ„SummerSlam Sunday Matchesđ„
đ„ Match 1: Singles Match To Become The Undisputed WWE Championship No. 1 Contender: Sami Zayn vs. Finn BĂĄlor
Kicking off night 3 after a pretty good night 1 of SummerSlam, we have a match to become the number 1 contender between Finn BĂĄlor and Sami Zayn, and we found out from last night that the winner of this match would face CM Punk, who won his night 1 match against Cody Rhodes.
Right before the bell rang to get Sami and Finn underway, the newly reinstated SmackDown GM, Nick Aldis, made it a triple threat match, adding Gunther. But right before the bell rang for this triple threat match, Aldis made it a fatal 4-way match, adding the returning Kevin Owens!
And man, did KO look good in his return to the ring! He took the fight to Gunther and Finn, hitting numerous connonballs to each of them in the corner, leaving only Sami standing in disbelief. These two hugged in the middle of the ring, then the fight between them began, and KO hit a Swanton Dive to the outside, taking all three of them out in the process.
Gunter and Finn were the first two to get up and start fighting, brawling with each other in the ring, until KO came back in the ring, hit a middle rope suplex to Finn, when Sami snuck in the ring, threw KO out of the ring, and covered Finn to try and steal a win, but Finn kicked out at 2.
Gunther joined back into the fray and locked his Sleeper Hold onto Sami while lying on the mat, and Finn took advantage, hitting a double Coup de Grace, covering Sami, but Gunther broke it up at 2.
Smai hit a Blue Thunder Bomb on KO, who also kicked out at 2. This reinvigorated KO, hitting Stunners on everybody, and the last Stunner he hit on Sami won him the match, earning the 3 count and the #1 contendership.
It was such a surprise to see KO return, and what a comeback it was, as KO looked like he didnât miss a step inside the ring. I think having Owens win his return match was the right call, and seeing Punk/Owens feud is exactly what SmackDown needs right now.
Result: Kevin Owens Pins Sami Zayn For The Win
Match Rating: 7/10
đșđž Match 2: Singles Match For The United States Championship Trick Williams (Champion) vs. Baron Corbin (Challenger)
After some time away focusing on other ventures and improving his skillset, Baron Corbin is in his first match back, and it is for the United States title against the reigning champion, who the crowds everywhere love, Trick Williams.
Lil Yachty kicked off this segment of SummerSlam, as he personally introduced Williams to the ring, adding some support to the outside of the ring in this match against a returning and dangerous Baron Corbin.
Because he knew how dangerous Corbin was earlier on in WWE, Williams went to get the advantage, as he attacked Corbin just before the bell rang, making for a successful beatdown capped off with a Trickslap.
The fight spilled to the outside, with Corbin playing possum, as he lay in wait for Williams to go around the ring, and hit a hard Deep Six near the entrance ramp, followed by throwing Trick into the barricade, ringpost, and the steel steps. This all-out beatdown continued in the ring, as Baron completely dominated Williams at this juncture of the match. It is fair to say Corbin didnât come to lose in this match.
Because he saw Trick in a bad spot, Lil Yachty distracted Corbin, allowing Williams to take control of the match with a Bookend, and covered Baron, who kicked out at 2. This time, there was a distraction by Williams as the ref checked on him, as Lil Yachty used the Trick Stick, a version of the kendo stick, to hit Corbin.
Corbin then went to the outside of the ring and grabbed the US title to use it when the ref was not looking, but Yachty wasnât going to allow it and tried to take it from him. While that happened, Williams tried to break up the two, and his momentum went through Corbin, and Yachty went through a table at ringside. With that distraction, as Trick was rightfully concerned for Yachtyâs well-being, Corbin hit Williams in the head with the title, hit the End of Days, and earned the US title with the 3 count for the win in his first match back.
I really thought Williams would retain his title, as Corbin has only been back for a short amount of time, but Corbin is a seasoned veteran, and I think this was a good choice to shake up the US title scene on SmackDown
Result: Crobin Wins Via Pinfall
Match Rating: 6.8/10
𧄠Match 3: Ladder Match For The Interim WWE Womenâs Championship: Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Chelsea Green vs. Giulia Or Lash Legend
Ladder matches are always an entertaining addition to any card, but this ladder match has 5 of the best womenâs division superstars on SmackDown all competing for a shot to become the new WWE Womenâs Champion! Considering it is a ladder match, it should be fun to see the crazy spots that happen, and who will carry the SmackDown womenâs division in the future.
It is evident that Jade Cargill and Charlotte Flair have great disdain towards each other, as Charlotte was the last entrant entering the match, Jade bolted to the entrance ramp to meet Flair there, fighting to start the match.
One thing this match did was show off the power/dominance of Lash Legend, as she sent Tiffany Stratton and Chelsea Green both into standing ladders at ringside with ease, along with a scoop slam to Flair onto a ladder on the ring floor.
Jade Cargill got hers as well, as she managed to connect with a Jaded on Chelsea Green on a ladder setup in the corner. Another rough spot in this match was when Tiffany went for a hurricanrana off the top rope, but Lash stopped her momentum and powerbombed Tiffany onto a ladder setup directly beneath them.
Climbing for the title, Flairâs attempt was thwarted by Jade, who moved the ladder away, leaving Flair hanging by her arms, but was brought down by Jade and Lash, inflicting more damage.
Meanwhile, Stratton was able to hit a normal hurricanrana on Legend, sending her into the corner with a ladder, getting payback for what happened earlier in the match.
At this time, Chelsea Green was the only one left in the ring, and she scaled the ladder, but B-Fab and Michin came to Jadeâs rescue, not allowing Green to win. However, it was all for not as the end of the match saw all women down except for Green, who did scale the ladder to win her first major title in WWE!
If you watched WWE UnReal season 2, WWE management, more specifically Michael P.S. Hayes, used to not think Green was a main event player, but now she is the WWE Womenâs Champion, and it is well earned.
Result: Chelsea Green Climbs The Ladder And Wins
Match Rating: 7.3/10
đ Match 4: Human Monies On A Pole Match: Danhausen vs. Dominik Mysterio
We finally have a match that will hopefully end this feud between the Judgement Day and Danhausen over the $100,000 that Danhausen stole from Dom Mysterio and JD McDonagh, as the money on a pole match will prove who wants the money more and determine who will keep the human monies.
To kick off the Human Monies on a Pole Match, both Danhause and Dominik Mystero went for the bag of money immediately, but as they each went to grab it, the other would stop him. Gaining the upper hand, Danhausen was very close to the money early in the match, but of course, JD McDonagh stopped Danhausen by attacking him, stopping him from winning the match.
As the crowd was growing tired of the cheating and underhanded tactics by the Judgement Day, Danhausenâs Minihausens attacked JD to neutralize him, but Dom came to JDâs rescue, and help beatup all of them, except for one, who was on fire and hit a Suicide Dive on Dom to the outside.
This gave JD time to recover, as he used his bison-sized head to headbutt Danhausen, dropping him. It was time for some real backup for Danhausen, and that is when Joe Hendryâs music hit, and as he ran to the ring, he hit JD on the back with a guitar, taking him out of the match.
Danhausen was able to curse Dom when he was at the pole with the money almost off the pole, and it caused him to fall off the top rope, leaving a big opening for Danhausen to climb up the ropes and retrieve the $100,000, winning the match.
The theatrics of Danhausenâs matches never disappoint, and it does seem like The Judgement Day is never going to get their money back, as Danhausen always finds a way to win against them, no matter how much Dom and JD try.
Result: Danhausen Gets To The Pole And Retrieves The Money
Match Rating: 4/10
đ Match 5: Singles Match For The Intercontinental Championship Penta (Champion) vs. Chad Gable (Challenger)
Although this may not be the biggest match on the card, the hometown hero Chad Gable, after becoming the #1 contender for the Intercontinental title, was destined to win the championship. He was ready to perform in front of all of his family and friends and earn his first singles title in his WWE career, which, including NXT, has spanned almost 12 years.
As Chad Gable entered the stadium to his theme song, the crowd went crazy for him, as he is from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and it was great to see the loud, positive reaction for him.
To get started, the match had a very fast pace about it, with one of the best in-ring technicians (Gable) against one of the best high flyers (Penta), both going all offense right off the bat.
Chad, with his offense looking stellar, hit 3 German suplexes in a row, putting Penta down but not out, as he kicked out at 2. Penta, after he recovered, hit an over-the-top rope dive he is known for, rolled Gable back into the ring, hit a Penta Driver, but Gable kicked out at 2.
Because of the high pace, both men were spent at this point, but neither wanted to quit, as they exchanged loud chops back and forth in the middle of the ring. Eventually, Chad went for his diving headbutt, Penta countered it, and hit the Sacrifice on Chadâs surgically repaired shoulder, targeting it heavily.
The fight moved to the apron now, and Chad hit a nasty German suplex to Penta on the ring apron, followed by a moonsault outside of the ring to Penta, rolled him back in the ring, connected with his flying headbutt, and even after all of that, Penta kicked out at 2.
It was now Pentaâs time to make a statement, as he hit a Mexican Destroyer on the ring apron and rolled Gable into the ring, who kicked out at 2.99. This resilience led to Chad picking the ankle of Penta, grapevining it, forcing Penta to tap out, crowning Gable as the new Intercontinental champion of the world.
This was such a great thing to see, as Chad has given so much to this company, and to see him finally achieve what he set out to do years ago in his hometown, with his family in the ring to celebrate with him, was amazing.
Result: Chad Gable Wins Via Submission
Match Rating: 7.5/10
đïž Match 6: Singles Match For The World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (Champion) vs. Seth Rollins (Challenger)
The main event of SummerSlam is now here! The match of the whole PLE is now upon us, and it is time to see if the âTribal Chiefâ and World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns can finally, without any outside help, beat Seth Rollins and put it behind him. Or will Seth continue his winning ways, leading to another world title reign?
The mind games began even before both men entered the arena, as Rollins entered the stadium with the old SHIELD intro, followed by his typical theme song, as well as wearing a mask like the SHIELD used to wear to the ring. Romanâs entrance was business as usual.
While in the ring after the bell rang, they both stared each other down in the middle of the ring and exchanged a long war of words, then started the fight. There were mind games at play with each of them during their first few moves, making this a back-and-forth match in the beginning portion.
The first big move of the match was Roman going for a Superman Punch, but Seth countered, hit 3 Suicide Dives, went for a 4th, but Roman countered with a drive-by kick on the ropes. Their fighting led them to the arena floor, where Roman suplexed Rollins, followed by an attempted Spear back inside the ring, but he missed.
Rollins mocked Roman back on the outside, signaling for a spear through the barricade, but Roman had other ideas and powerbombed Seth through the Spanish announce table. He went to put Seth through the US announce table, but Rollins put Roman through the US table. With both men down and out, they both managed to beat the countout at a literal 9.99 count, continuing the match, where Seth hit a Pedigree, and Roman kicked out at 2. Roman went for a Spear again, and Rollins turned it into a Stomp, where Roman again kicked out at 2.
Rollins, smelling blood, hit a superplex on Roman, who then locked in a guillotine choke on Seth, who got out of it, and then Roman hit a Spear with Rollins kicking at 2. Rollins then hit a spear on Roman, who kicked out, and then went for a Buckle Bomb, but Roman hit one of his own on Seth, along with Sethâs Stomp, but Seth kept the match alive by kicking out.
Towards the end of the match, Seth hit the famous Dean Ambrose clothesline, and Roman hit a Dirty Deeds DDT, both paying homage to their third SHIELD member. This wasnât all, as Roman accidentally took the ref out with a Spear, and while he was down, Roman got a chair to use, but decided against it, wanting to win the fight fairly.
To end it, Roman hit 2 Spears with the ref still down, but as the ref recovered, Roman hit a third Spear, and pinned Rollins to be Rawâs top dog.
This match had so many moving parts and was long, but the great storytelling behind this match made it absolutely fantastic!
Result: Roman Reigns Wins Via Pinfall
Match Rating: 10/10,
âFinal PLE Rating: 7.3/10â
